VDB Audio Finger Control Surface 12
The VDB Audio Finger Control Surface 12 is a compact, yet robust, 12-channel USB control surface designed for professional on-location recording with Sound Devices Series-8 recorders (888 and Scorpio). Its durable construction of aluminium and PA-12 nylon makes it ideal for demanding shoots.

It features 12 rotary trimmers (with stop), 12 dust-protected faders, and 12 PFL controls for direct control of 12 recorder channels.
It also includes controls for recording, stopping, triggering the Slate mic, and a shortcut to arm or disarm tracks. LEDs on the front panel indicate the status of the main functions: PFL monitoring, armed/disarmed status, recording, and Slate activation.
The control surface provides the user with a potentiometer corresponding to the Master fader, which can be assigned to any bus or output on the recorder. The surface also offers four assignable controls (and more by combination), as shortcuts to a wide selection of recorder functions such as activating Com circuits, monitoring, or assigning faders to buses or outputs.
With its 12 channels, the FCS-12 is ideal for use on a rolling rack with Sound Devices 888 and Scorpio recorders. It is also very useful with an 833 equipped with the 4+ plugin. The FCS-12 control surface uses the MCU MIDI protocol, which makes it possible to use it with DAWs. It is also possible to use two FCS control surfaces in cascade (via USB port on the recorder side) to temporarily increase the number of direct controls available.
Two versions are available depending on the fader resistance, to suit everyone’s preferences and working conditions:
- SOFT version: soft faders, promoting responsiveness and fluidity of movement.
- FIRM version: resistant faders, offering precise and progressive control.
Its design allows the user to easily replace faders and potentiometers, for example:
- The faders can be changed at any time: the alternative version is available as a ready-to-install accessory.
- The potentiometers of the basic model (8 or 12 channels, SOFT or FIRM faders) are all supplied in a slim black version. The user can customize them to their liking thanks to different models sold separately:
- Wide black potentiometers
- Slim coloured potentiometers
- Wide coloured potentiometers
All types of potentiometers are available for purchase, individually, or in kits:
- Black kit: 12 units
- Colour kit: 11 colours + 1 black, to obtain the 12 necessary positions.
